Hermann Krause
Hermann Krause (1902–1991) was an influential legal scholar and legal historian. As a conservative with a middle-class background from a family of civil servants, he pursued a successful academic career during the Weimar Republic and the “Third Reich” as an expert for economic law. After 1955 he was a professor at the University of Munich and turned towards legal history, being a member of the Zentraldirektion of the Monumenta Germaniae Historica.
This first biography about Hermann Krause traces his career as a scholar. His life can be seen as exemplary for the German educated elites between Imperial Germany and the Federal Republic and by studying it, this book analyses the breaches of the 20th century in the German legal sciences and the civil sercive.
