Armut und Armenfürsorge in Spanien in der Frühen Neuzeit.

Studien zur Sozialgeschichte Pamplonas im 16. Jahrhundert.

[Poverty and Poor Relief in Spain in the Early Modern Period. Studies in the Social History of Pamplona in the  Century.]

In the Renaissance, paupers werde increasingly seen as a threat to existing order. This situation led to a discourse about new approaches to poor relief with “De subventione Pauperum” by Juan Luis Vives being the first comprehensive treatise on this subject. The discussion led to the beginning of the institutionalization of poor relief. This study analyzes the developments on the Iberian Peninsula and the changes in churchly, urban, and private poor relief in Pamplona.
