In all the various, often seemingly contradictory aspects of his personality, the fascinating figure of Paul Felisch is a typical „Bildungsbürger“ of the Wilhelmine era. His impressive career as well as his decline into insignificance after 1919 is inseperably bound to the fate of the German Empire.
Not least thanks to his substantial personal network, Felisch made a career which, after having been a legal professional and judge in Carolath (Silesia) and Berlin, saw him as head of the legal department and chief of counterintelligence in the Imperial Navy Office from 1900 to 1920. Here, he was in the centre of the contemporary „Zeitgeist“ and met many of the formative personalities of his era.
This is his autobiography, written in 1933 to 1934, which was until recently assumed to be lost and which thanks to this edition for the first time can be enjoyed by a larger public.
