Erwachsen werden von Zauberhand

Numerous current series combine the theme of coming-of-age, with fantastic settings and narratives. At first glance, this combination is obvious from the young target audience of fantastic material, but the question arises whether an added value in terms of content or narrative makes this synthesis meaningful beyond that.

Using the three series CHILLING ADVENTURES OF SABRINA (USA 2018-2020), I AM NOT OKAY WITH THIS (USA 2020) and THE MAGICIANS (USA/Canada 2015-2020), the author examines the fantastic as a metaphor, narrative strategy and source of contrast for modern coming-of-age narratives.
