It focuses on material sources of journeys, anthropological aspects of travel experiences like the perception of space, the image of “the other” or moments of reflection, and on forms of fixation of travel experiences in various media like accounts of scientific expeditions, travelogues, novels, and poems.
It contains papers from the international interdisciplinary conference founded by the Alexander von Humboldt foundation in St. Petersburg in April 2013.
